CREWE ALEX FOOTBALL EVENT
Another successful time was had at the Crewe Alexander Soccer Centre in October.
A beautiful sunny morning awaited the footballers. Liverpool, Manchester United, Sunderland and Newcastle were represented.
After warming up, the first half was spent practising football skills. Everyone had a chance to dribble and shoot goals. Then their skills were put in to practise in the second half. Everyone was talking about the amount of goals they had managed to score.
The day was ended with a packed lunch and little goodie bag to take home.
It was brilliant to see all the children having so much fun. Especially children that normally do not get the opportunity to play football.

Annual General Meeting
Our AGM/Family get together was held this year at Tatton Park and despite the dreadful weather we had a good turn out. After quickly covering the business matters for the day we all had the opportunity to have a chat over lunch together and then a few hardy soles braved the rain and made it to the play area!!
This year we hope to combine it with the NDCS Family Day at Crewe Hall in June - more details nearer the time.

Our day out at the Roller Skating Party
Me and my sister went to the roller skating party held for the children of the East Cheshire Deaf Children's Society. It was difficult for a while and my mummy had to help me go round the big hall with my skates on, then it got easier after a while. I fell over only 3 times! The room was dark and there was nice pop music. There was lots of food after the disco, cakes and sandwiches, I ate lots of cakes and crisps and tomatoes. I didn't know anyone at the start then I made 2 friends called Charlotte and Ellie and I'm going to meet up with Ellie to play in the holidays. Ellie's sister who is a baby has 2 pink hearing aids that I really liked. I got a new mould last week and it has glitter in it. And it has a picture of a star. By Sorrel Smith age 6 ¾

XMAS AT CHESTER ZOO
On a very cold wet Saturday in December 20 families braved the weather to go to the Frost Fair at Chester Zoo.

Although we didn't have the chance to all meet up, the feedback was that everyone had a great day. Most families paid a visit to Santa's grotto to let him know what were on their Christmas list, whilst others had a go at Ice-skating and wandered round the zoo to see the animals.

Complex Day 12th January 2008
Topic: Behaviour - Children with Complex Needs.
Guest speaker: Penny Millington - Community Nurse - Learning Disabilities - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
The parents of children with complex needs had their annual meeting; we talked about our children and how they're developing. Some parents brought videos of their children and we compared notes.
Guest speaker Penny Millington is a community nurse who specialises on children with severe learning disabilities (behaviour). Penny talked about the available local services, how the services can be accessed and under which circumstances parents should contact the services. She also gave examples of different types of behaviours and explained how the behaviour should be approached; she explained that all behaviours have a trigger that causes it, therefore if you try to remove this trigger than it's more likely that you're going to be successful in controlling the behaviour. The parents talked about their children's behaviour, and Penny gave them advice in how best to approach/deal with them. All parents felt that Penny's advices were very useful, and that she helped them to reassess their children's behaviour.
We plan to meet again in June, this time with our children on board, at Norton Priory in Warrington.
On behalf of all the parents we would like to thank the ECDCS for their continuous support, also Joyce Thorpe, Debbie Hiom, Chris Stanion (teachers of the deaf) for their help and support, and organising the event.

The Big Walk Forward 9th March '08
On Sunday 9th March the above motley crew; Amanda Barker with her 2 sons Josh and Dom & Colin Savage with daughter Holly set out on the Big Walk in London. Organised by the NDCS they are hoping to raise over £1,000 for East Cheshire Deaf Children's Society. The walk started in Lincoln Inn Fields and made its way along the Jubilee way taking in the sights of London. There were teddy bears to find along the way and a goody bag at the end if they were all found.

5 miles later some very tired legs arrived at the finish in Russell Square, where a much deserved hot chocolate, some face painting and balloon modelling soon revived us.

On the 9th March, I went to London with my Dad and did a 5 mile sponsored walk around London organised by the NDCS. We met Dominic, Josh and their Mum and Auntie and there were also hundreds of other families taking part. We enjoyed seeing Big Ben, St Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye. We all felt really happy at the end (aching legs), there was loud music playing in the back round when we finished our walk and people were getting their faces painted. We managed to raise over £1,000 for our local group and would love to do it again next yearit was such good fun.
